Easy ways to get to the Vinschgau Valley with your bike

You would like to travel to the Vinschgau Valley with your bike? No problem – there are several convenient options to get from Meran to Mals with your bike. Whether by train, shuttle or private transport services: you’ll find everything you need to know right here.

Current situation: train service in the Vinschgau Valley

Train services on the Vinschgau Railway (“Vinschger Bahn”) have been partially resumed. Trains between Meran and Laas currently run every two hours. Some early morning and evening trains take you as far as Mals.

You are allowed to take your bike on these trains, subjet to available space.

Moreover, a rail replacement bus service is still operating between Meran and Mals. Please note that bicycles are not allowed on these buses.

From 18 April 2026, the current service pattern will continue:

  • Trains between Meran and Laas run every 2 hours
  • Limited connections between Laas and Mals in the morning and evening
  • Replacement bus service remains in operation

Your options for transporting your bike

🚲 Bike transport on the train (Vinschgau Railway “Vinschger Bahn”)

The simplest option is to bring your bike on the regional train.

What you should know:

  • Space for approx. 16–20 bicycles per train
  • No reservations possible
  • Transport only if space is available
  • No guarantee of bike transport

🚲 BikeLiner shuttle – comfortable & convenient to book

The BikeLiner shuttle starting from Meran is a reliable alternative if you want to travel with your bike stress-free.

Departures from the Meran railway station (bus platform B): 09:10 | 10:10 | 15:10 | 16:10

Important information:

  • Hand over your bike at least 15 minutes before departure
  • Your reservation expires if you are late
  • Online booking is mandatory (by 6:00 pm the day prior to departure)

Prices & tickets

For the BikeLiner shuttle you need:

  • a valid ticket for yourself (e.g. single ticket, MobilCard, or South Tyrol GuestPass)
  • a bike ticket (day pass): €7.00

Tickets are available at ticket machines or online.

🚲 Private bike transport to the Vinschgau Valley

In addition to trains and shuttle services, private transport services are a further option. These services take you and your bike flexibly from Lana or Meran all the way to Graun (Lake Resia/Reschensee).

For transport with the private bicycle transfer service Südtirolbike, an online reservation is required.
