The old lime kiln in the yew forest

… it had to be stoked day and night for about a week … the restored lime kiln gives us back a piece of Andriano history.

In the Andriano “yew forest” there is an old lime kiln that used to be used for lime extraction (as building material).

The kiln was dug into the ground to retain the heat inside as effectively as possible. The limestone was processed by firing for days at temperatures above 1000°C.

The remains of the kiln are well preserved.
